SAFETY - THE BASE CHAKRA
The heart of the matter is in the heart of matter.
Safety: The base chakra, the earthed chakra, the red, is about safety. In my 35 years experience as a breathwork therapist countless people have described to me their thoughts and feelings of danger and alienation interwoven throughout their lives. Instead of life on planet Earth being full of potential and a safe place to be, everything and everyone is to be feared on some level of consciousness. I have heard the same thoughts over and over, no matter what the person’s age or circumstance. Whether in counselling or when they are breathing, these fundamental thoughts reveal themselves:
“Life is dangerous” . . .“There is no one here for me” . . . “There is not enough for me” . . . “Feelings hurt” . . . “My body hurts” . . . “I have no choice” . . . “They are doing it to me” . . . “They take me away from what I need” . . . “Who am I?” . . . “What am I?” . . . “What have I done wrong?” . . . “I’m going to have to do this all by myself” . . . “I’m alone. I’m separate”.
I refer to these thoughts as Archetypal Negatives, shared societal thoughts. Each culture has its own unique manifestation, and they exist throughout the developed world, and are imposed on those cultures that are subject to increased globalisation.
The healing thoughts for this centre are:
- My body is safe no matter how I might be feeling
- The breath is safe, it supports the release of discomfort, no matter how long I have stored it!
- I am the Earth… I am creativity!
Embracing the physical leads to wholeness and health. To be whole and complete includes Body, Mind and Spirit. Our personal healing inquiry may include: Sensuality, the gift of having a body; Sexuality, a choice of physical expression; and Spirituality, our connection to ALL THAT IS.
We decide very early on, I think in-utero, because we come through the bodies of women who think it’s dangerous to be in a body, that it’s not safe to be in a body, thus life is not safe. This is an all-pervading thought form, what I call an archetypal belief, in civilised society, that it is not safe to have a body, the physical Universe is dangerous. This is victim consciousness, this is the consciousness of ‘at any moment, at any time - something can attack me: a tree will fall, a brick will hit me on the head, it will hurt’.
I don’t even need bricks and trees, I don’t need them at all. I can be all by myself, and suddenly my body has a pain, 'it is attacking me'. It’s the physical. The physical universe is right here, and everything we write about, everything we think about, everything we project on movie screens, and on pieces of paper is a reflection of what is going on here (inside). And any one of us, if we encountered any pain on our entry into this place, we think that it can hurt us.
Below are some uses of the affirmations to do with Safety and how Source students have experienced using them in their lives.
