COMPASSION IS RESONANT IN JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING I THINK ABOUT AT THE MOMENT
I WANT TO DEVELOP MORE COMPASSION FOR MYSELF RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE I AM CERTAIN THAT THAT WILL INCREASE MY CAPACITY TO BE MORE COMPASSIONATE TOWARD OTHERS.
Most dictionary definitions of compassion seem to be about sharing the suffering of others. I am fascinated about the origin of the word from the Latin, com – with and pati – to suffer … ‘To suffer with’ is the generally accepted dictionary definition.
Of great interest to me is the definition of passion as, barely controlled emotion; an outburst of emotion; intense sexual emotion, AND, as above, it is from the word pati, to suffer. Powerful energy moving in the physical body, passion, is described as suffering.
Where does the association of higher than normal levels of energy with suffering come from?
When was it decided that passion was a form of suffering?
WE ARE ENERGY IN FORM
What we describe as feelings is simply energy moving in the physical body causing sensation. Those sensations are not positive or negative, just energy. Emotions are energy in motion. Each of us is the One who describes/defines the sensations and names a feeling. How we define/name the feelings is how we will experience our body and our life.
Did your Mother describe her birthing energy as suffering?
Is this the information that you hold as the truth about birth and life?
I ACCEPT THAT THERE IS SUFFERING
I accept that there is suffering, intense suffering, in the world. I accept that there is great need for healing in all life systems, AND I have become convinced that suffering is not a requirement in birth or in life.
My passions are those aspects of life that I am most enthusiastic about and most committed to. My passions do cause increased energy in me, and they do not cause me to suffer, I do. I care deeply about human suffering, and I do not think that I need to suffer in order to be of service to those who are in need of help or healing.
My personal definition of compassion is simply Passion With, Life Energy With. Now when energies increase I know that I have a choice about how I describe what is happening in my body.
ANGER, FOR INSTANCE, IS DEFINITELY AN INTENSIFICATION OF ENERGY
Something or someone has provoked an old memory held in the body, and the decision made at a time in the past was, ’I am helpless, hopeless, powerless to do anything about this.’ As an infant and as a small child, you were helpless. Now, you have a choice.
Pain from an illness or unbalanced condition can cause you to think, ‘there is something wrong with me!’ Now, you have a choice.
A heart space bursting with emotion over separation from a loved one can be described as a broken heart, Or as a heart opening. You have a choice.
When encountering high levels of energy and thus sensation, do you stop and check in with your body, the people, and the environment before drawing conclusions? Do you remember that you have a choice in this moment about how to use all the activated energy? The way you describe/name the feelings is how you will continue to experience them.
I think that having compassion for one’s Self is to name the experience of Life in ways that move everyone and everything forward, healing the past and shaping a future that is full of light.
LOOK FOR THE LOVE
Look for the Love and the Joy, the Innocence, behind the suffering and acknowledge it. If it is not appropriate to share your In sight with the one who is suffering, do so on the inner. Then do what you are able to alleviate the suffering, AND know in your heart of hearts that Love always wins. Trust that your Love and theirs heals.
